1. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

Personal information you disclose to us. We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on the Services, use the Services, or contact us.

Personal Information Provided by You. The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the Services, the choices you make, and the products and features you use. The personal information we collect may include the following:

Sensitive information. We do not ask for sensitive information, such as health, religion or sexual orientation. Please think carefully before sharing it in plans or chats, which other users can see.

Location. If you allow location access, the app uses your location while it is open to show how far away plans are and to sort them by distance. We do not send your precise location to our servers. Your phone's built-in location service (provided by Apple or Google) works out which country you are in, and we send only that country to our servers, to improve place search when you create a plan. You can turn off location access at any time in your device's settings; some location-based features will then not work.

Push Notifications. We may request to send you push notifications regarding your account or certain features of the application(s). If you wish to opt out from receiving these types of communications, you may turn them off in your device's settings. If you enable push notifications, we collect and store a push notification token, a generated app/device identifier, and your device platform so that we can send account, plan, chat, and request-related notifications.

All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes to such personal information.

Information automatically collected. When you use the Services, we and our service providers, including Firebase, automatically collect device and usage information. This may include your IP address, the date and time you use the Services, your device platform, operating system and general device information, the app version and build or release channel, app-instance identifiers, push notification tokens, generated app/device identifiers, analytics events, information about how and when you use features of the Services, and error, crash, diagnostic and performance information. We use this information to operate, secure, troubleshoot, analyse and improve the Services, and for our internal analytics and reporting. We also use analytics tools, such as Firebase Analytics, as described in section 5.

We do not intentionally collect your device's permanent hardware identifier, phone number, or mobile carrier account details, except where such information is processed by our service providers as necessary to provide analytics, messaging, security, or app functionality. We do not collect advertising identifiers (such as Android's Advertising ID or Apple's IDFA), do not show ads, and do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Google API. Our use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

2. HOW DO WE PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?

We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on how you interact with our Services.

To facilitate account creation and authentication and otherwise manage user accounts. We may process your information so you can create and log in to your account, as well as keep your account in working order.

To deliver and facilitate delivery of services to the user. We may process your information to provide you with the requested service.

To respond to user inquiries/offer support to users. We may process your information to respond to your inquiries and solve any potential issues you might have with the requested service.

To enable user-to-user communications. We may process your information if you choose to use any of our offerings that allow for communication with another user.

To identify usage trends. We may process information about how you use our Services to better understand how they are being used so we can improve them.

To keep weif safe. We use reports and blocks to protect users and act on misuse of the Services.

To save or protect an individual's vital interest. We may process your information when necessary to save or protect an individual's vital interest, such as to prevent harm.

3. WHAT LEGAL BASES DO WE RELY ON TO PROCESS YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on in order to process your personal information.

Consent. We may process your information if you have given us permission (i.e. consent) to use your personal information for a specific purpose. You can withdraw your consent at any time.

Performance of a Contract. We may process your personal information when we believe it is necessary to fulfil our contractual obligations to you, including providing our Services or at your request prior to entering into a contract with you.

Legitimate Interests. We may process your information when we believe it is reasonably necessary to achieve our legitimate business interests and those interests do not outweigh your interests and fundamental rights and freedoms. For example, we may analyse how our Services are used so we can improve them and keep users engaged.

Legal Obligations. We may process your information where we believe it is necessary for compliance with our legal obligations, such as to cooperate with a law enforcement body or regulatory agency, exercise or defend our legal rights, or disclose your information as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.

Vital Interests. We may process your information where we believe it is necessary to protect your vital interests or the vital interests of a third party, such as situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person.

How these apply to weif. We rely on performance of a contract to run your account, plans, join requests and chats; on your consent for location access and push notifications; and on our legitimate interests to keep weif safe (reports, blocks and keeping reports) and to understand how the app is used so we can improve it.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the situations below.

Business Transfers. We may share or transfer your information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.

When we use Google Maps Platform APIs. When you search for a place, we send your search text and your country to Google Places, which we use for place search and place details.

Other Users. Plans you create, including their title, place, time, description and who they are for, are visible to anyone using weif, along with your name and profile photo as the host. When you ask to join a plan, the host sees your name, profile photo and any message you include. Chat messages are visible only to the members of that chat. Your age and gender are not shown to other users.

Service providers. We use service providers to run weif: Fly.io hosts our servers and database, Apple and Google provide sign-in, and Google Firebase provides analytics and push notifications. They process your information only on our behalf and under our instructions.

International transfers. Some of our servers and service providers are located outside the EU, including in the United States. When we transfer your information there, we use appropriate safeguards required by data protection law. To ask about these safeguards, email contact@weifapp.com.

5. DO WE USE ANALYTICS AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES?

We may use analytics and similar technologies, including Firebase Analytics, to collect information about how users interact with our Services. These technologies help us understand usage trends, troubleshoot issues, improve app performance, and enhance the user experience.

6. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?

We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (such as tax, accounting, or other legal requirements). If another user reports you, we keep the report, the name you used, your recent messages in that plan's chat and a pseudonymised (one-way hashed) form of your sign-in identifiers, such as your email address, for up to 12 months, even after you delete your account. We do this to protect other users and to recognise a reported person who signs up again. We keep a report for longer only while it is still under review. Reports you make are kept for the same period, without a link to your account once you delete it.

When you delete your account in the app, we immediately delete your profile, plans, chat messages, join requests, blocks and notifications. Reports, including any chat messages copied into them, are kept as described above. Messages you have sent to support are kept so we can finish handling them, but are no longer linked to your account. Copies may remain in server backups for a short period until those backups expire, and analytics data is kept for a limited time under our analytics provider's retention settings.
